Hello & Welcome to JustAnswer Can you try the following: Select the downloaded file in your Downloads folder, which should be named something like “installflashplayerosx.dmg.mdlp” Press Return to edit its file name Delete the “.mdlp” extension, leaving “.dmg” as the final text in the name Press Return again to exit file name editing mode When you complete these steps, OS X will warn you that changing the extension will make this file open in a different application.

If Flash Player is installed on your computer, the following box displays the version of Flash Player and your operating system. If Flash Player is not installed, an error message appears.
If your Flash Player installation was not successful, use the following solution to reinstall.

Beginning with Flash Player 11.5, uninstalling the Flash Player resets the AutoUpdateDisable and SilentAutoUpdateEnable settings in mms.cfg to their default values:
- AutoUpdateDisable=0
- SilentAutoUpdateEnable=0
If you are running the Flash Player uninstaller as part of your deployment process, redeploy any custom changes to either AutoUpdateDisable or SilentAutoUpdateEnable.

- Delete the following directories:

- Download the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller:
- Mac OS X, version 10.3 and earlier: uninstall_flash_player_osx_10.2.dmg (1.3 MB) (updated 05/27/08)
- Choose Window > Downloads to view the downloaded uninstaller.
- Save the uninstaller file in a convenient location.
- To open the uninstaller, double-click it in the Downloads window.
- To run the uninstaller, double-click the Uninstaller icon in the window. If requested, enter your computer user name and password and click OK.
- Bookmark or print this page so that you can use the rest of these instructions after you close your browser. Close all browsers and other applications that use Flash Player, including instant messaging applications, SWF files, and projectors (EXE files that play SWF files). Otherwise, the uninstaller cannot finish (even though it appears to finish).Once the uninstaller finishes, the window closes automatically.

Safari for Windows. Apple no longer offers Safari updates for Windows. Safari 5.1.7 for Windows was the last version made for Windows, and it is now outdated. Load more results. I solved the problem a different way. I deleted Flash completely. If I absolutely must view a flash website I use Chrome, which has Flash built-in.

Maybe, but it is effective, and he's not the first person I've seen do it. I think it's going to become a pretty popular solution for those who are tech-inclined enough to know how to uninstall or disable plugins.

Now in beta, Flash 10.3 has a System Preference panel that provides a more user friendly interface, including Update checking. Something Adobe should have done long ago.
Of course ClickToFlash works great in Safari to avoid Flash, except when absolutely necessary. I wouldn't auto update any software.

You can call me a chicken, but there are people out there who consider it no good advise at all to give a silent install script root privileges allowing it to install stuff around their machines without users even realizing it (especially when that stuff comes from a company infamous for their installation abominations). This is the fast lane to a completely messed up system.
